Partnership Enhances Popular "50-Plus" Website With Web 2.0
Health Search Features
San Francisco, CA -- Healthline Networks, the leading provider
of intelligent health information services, today announced that
it has been selected by Eons™, the 50-plus media company for
baby boomers and seniors, to provide health search and
navigation services. Beginning in early 2007, when Eons members
and visitors look for health or medical information on the Eons
website, they will have access to results and navigation tools
powered by Healthline's "Medically Guided" semantic taxonomy,
the largest consumer medical database of its kind. |

Searching for
health information on Eons will be transparent. When visitors
enter a search term into Eons' cRANKy™ search box -- the first
age-relevant search engine for adults 50 plus -- Healthline's
proprietary HealthFind™ technology will instantly identify
whether the search term is related to health and will return
contextually relevant results based on a combination of
Healthline's search technology and Eons' member rating and
ranking algorithms.
Eons will integrate three additional Healthline semantic
services into its health search service: Eons Answers,
HealthIdeas and HealthLinks™. Eons Answers will be the first
search result shown on the cRANKy results page. It will contain
a more robust description of the result in response to the
user's query and will link to very relevant, high-quality
content made available from Eons or Healthline. HealthIdeas
provides searchers with a suite of health information navigation
tools, including Healthline HealthMaps® visual search developed
by doctors and medical informatics professionals to help the
user navigate more precisely within results rather than
continually returning to the search box. Another proprietary
feature, HealthLinks, intelligently identifies health and
medical terms within article text and automatically hyperlinks
them to deeper, related content within that topic.
"Eons and Healthline share a vision -- we're both dedicated to
providing the best information to our members to allow them to
live the most robust lives possible," said W. Lee Goss, chief
operating officer, Eons. "Health issues are often top of mind
for our members, and Healthline offers the best Web 2.0 health
search resources to help our audience better the health of
themselves and those they care about."
Healthline Networks' suite of intelligent health information
services includes search, navigation and content components to
help consumers navigate the complex world of health and medicine
in an often cluttered and confusing online environment. Through
its relationship with Healthline, Eons will give its audience
access to the HealthWeb -- 170,000 top health and medical sites
representing more than 150 million pages of quality content
across the Internet, as well as thousands of licensed
physician-reviewed articles. To present this information in
medically accurate context, Healthline worked with over 1,100
physicians and its team of medical informatics professionals to
develop the largest semantic taxonomy of its kind for consumer
health, which integrates multiple databases covering drugs,
symptoms, risk factors, physician specialties, diagnostic and
treatment procedures, insurance billing codes, synonyms and more
-- to deliver the most precise, relevant search results for
health information seekers.
"Eons is delivering a tremendous resource to the 88 million
50-plus individuals who are living larger and healthier lives
using the Internet," said West Shell III, Healthline Networks
chairman and chief executive officer. "We see great synergy in
partnering with Eons and innovating together on how their
growing community finds, understands and shares health
information."
